Earth Speak with Natalie Ross and Friends

Mar 23, 2019

Siv Watkins is a Ph.D. environmental microbiologist specializing in the examination of microorganism activity. Through her studies and spiritual work, Siv has become deeply rooted in the philosophy of animism (consciously relating to microbes, plants, and non-human species). Siv offers three related services: knowing and understanding microbes a.k.a. “the smalls”, a scientific consultation on the study of the smalls, and mental health support in academia.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • What microanimism is
  • How plant life is self-sustainable
  • Developing a relationship with the non-human world
  • Respectfully introducing yourself to non-human organisms and microbes
  • How intuition is frowned upon in science
  • How everything begins with microbes
  • Challenging the idea that microbes and people cannot relate to one another
  • Working with Daniel Foor to develop ancestral work in relation to microanimism
  • Identifying what you are in service to in the world
  • The importance of cultivating curiosity
  • How academia is a business at the expense of discovery
  • Learning how to be present through work with horses
  • Siv’s sacred geometry face tattoo talisman
  • Guiding people to connect with the smalls

Bonus! Siv discusses the process of cultivating microbes (including bacteria and mushrooms) and best practices for respectful interplay in this week’s secret episode!
